Paying for Benefits While on Unpaid Leave of Absence
When you are on an unpaid leave of absence and do not have a paycheck from the company, you will make benefit premium payments via the Direct Bill process with Businessolver to keep your coverage en force. This benefit payment process is applicable whether you are receiving a long-term disability payment from New York Life or not.
- You are eligible to continue your benefits at the same bi-weekly rate that you paid via paycheck deduction while you were on active or short-term disability status.
- The IRS does not allow you to continue Dependent Care FSA contributions while on unpaid leave of absence. If you were enrolled in a Dependent Care FSA plan, your enrollment has been cancelled. If you return to active status with Uniti, you can contact Businessolver to be re-enrolled in the plan.
- Once you have been unpaid from Uniti for three (3) pay periods, Businessolver will set up a direct bill account for you and begin billing you monthly. You will make your premium payments to Businessolver while you are on unpaid leave of absence.
- Since it takes 6-8 weeks from the time you last had a paycheck to the time you receive your first bill from Businessolver, please be prepared for a larger first bill.
- Your premiums accrue on a bi-weekly basis (just like when you were paid by Uniti) but Businessolver invoices monthly. As a result, your bill may not be the same amount each month.
- All future communication from Businessolver will be sent via email to your preferred email address as designated in your Businessolver account. If you have not already designated a personal email account as your preferred address, please call Businessolver at 888-850-1712 to do so.
- Businessolver issues bills on the first of the month and they are due upon receipt. If payment is not received by the end of the month, coverage will be canceled back to your last paid through date.
- Payment can be made via ACH or online at Businessolver. Businessolver can be reached at 888-850-1712 for assistance in making a payment.
- If you return to active status before your first direct bill is issued, the premiums you have not yet paid for will be deducted from your future Uniti paychecks at a bi-weekly rate not to exceed twice your normal premium amount.
- If you terminate employment while on unpaid leave of absence status, you must be current in your premium payments to be eligible to continue Uniti coverage under either the Retiree Insurance Plan or under COBRA.
- It is your responsibility to ensure premium payments are made timely. If you have questions now or after you receive any bills, Businessolver can be reached at 888-850-1712.
